Here’s a nice scenic run around the Cove area. As you’ll see by the map, it’s easily adjustable to become shorter or longer while still taking advantage of the great views.

To do the 5-miler, start by running a lap on the paved path in the park (about .85 mi). Then run down Weed Ave., left onto the Post Rd., left onto Seaside Ave., and left onto Cove Rd. Run around the park path again and then shoot back out onto Weed Ave. This time take a left onto Matthews and then left onto Seaside Ave, and left onto Cove. The two loops together are just over 5 miles.

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

  • The trek up Post Rd and Matthews provides a nice uphill challenge; the rest of the route is fairly flat.
  • The run down Weed is very scenic, but getting too lost in the view could be bad for your health. Be sure to run against traffic and keep an eye on oncoming cars. There’s no sidewalk on the road and it’s fairly narrow.

Great run, I tried it as my first outdoor run of the year in mid-February 2010 and the views of the “pond” along Weed Road were amazing. That’s also a decent uphill grade for the short time you’re on Post Road. I actually had to walk a little to get my heart rate down in my training zone, but overall, this route is a nice mix of easy and challenge, with some scenic views. Thanks!
