This 5-mile run has it all: a jaunt through the park, a stretch just feet away from the Mill River, and a little bit of urban flavor. Plus, there are plenty of places to have lunch if you start/finish the run in the downtown area. I pointed out one of my favorites on the map, the Bullshead Market at 500 Summer St.

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

  • Although I often run this route during the week, there’s definitely less stop and go in the more urban areas on the weekends.
  • The route is fairly flat, except for North St. If you want the uphill challenge, run the route so that you approach North St. from Washington Blvd.
  • Gorgeous ducks float up and down Mill River all year long. The best place to catch them up close and personal is near the foot bridge into Scalzi Park on Washington Blvd. (right before the fire station). The ducks breed in the late spring and it’s a real treat to watch the babies learnĀ  the ropes from their parents.

The North Street hill on this route always gets me – I usually end up walking some of it. A good way to get up this hill running, though, is shorten your stride and slow down a little. Once I get past this hill, the rest of the route feels like a breeze! Did it yesterday and added one more loop around the park to make it more distance.
